In short both NVR and DVR are to record video footage. DVR is the acronym for Digital Video Recorder and NVR for Network Video Recorder. Both differentiate as in how they process the video data. While DVR System process the video data at the recorder NVR System encodes and process video data at the camera. It then Stream it to the NVR to store it and to remote viewing it.
Both DVR and NVR connect to different types of Cameras. Most NVR used with IP Cameras while DVR used with analog cameras. The main different lies on how they connect to the CCTV camera. While DVR is a wired based security system NVR can eighter be a wired or wireless one. Compare to DVR, NVR systems are easier to install and relatively have better image quality.

DVR is relatively a straightforward security system. It uses coaxial BNC cable to connect to CCTV Cameras. If a property already wired from existing security system it is possible to use those cables to connect to security. If not its important to place the DVR near a power out let. The CCTV Camera should also be powered separately as coaxial cables doesn’t provide power to the camera.
Although in past differences between them were a considerable fact buying them it’s no longer the case. Both systems are reliable and does record video data as they supposed to be. As of now purchase it is only depending on the type of cameras it should connected to and how the data should be transmitted in and out of the device. Also, if you are on budget DVR based security systems are priced lower than most NVR systems.
